One of the biggest challenges many small businesses face is getting customers. They often lack the resources they need to market their products of services effectively. They might not have the money to advertise or the time to allocate to marketing. With that being said smaller businesses can still do a good job of marketing their products and services.
Create Your Product In A Way That It Becomes One Of Your Best Marketing Tools
The thing about marketing is that you don’t always need money or lots of people to do it effectively. To put it simply marketing is the connection between customer and product. And today I want to share with you simple marketing strategies that small businesses can employ using their products to market themselves better.
How To Use Your Product As A Marketing Strategy
1. Go The Opposite Way
One of the marketing strategies you can use for your product is to go in a direction that is the opposite of what your product is. For example you own a donuts shop that sells standard donuts. This is a type of food that is known as a sweet snack, so what you can do is introduce a different kind of donuts. For example you can have donuts with sweet potatoes, sweet corn, or carrots as a topping or even of the side, or in some other form. A person can have their sweet snack and healthy filling too.
2. Go Extra
Another way you can use your product for marketing is to take it up a notch. For example you own a sneaker or shoe shop and you sell shoes that are cheaper or a bargain. Let’s say you sell some shoes for $30. What you can do is offer a box with three pairs of shoes for $80. The customer chooses which three pairs they want and they get a deal, while you sell more product. You can even call it the big shoe box. You can also do the same with more pricier shoes.
3. Complement Your Product
A third way to improve your marketing with your product is to offer something that complements it. For example you own a vacuum shop or sell vacuums. You can drive more customer attention and traffic by offering an event where people can come to the shop and get their cars vacuumed. This is not a service you offer, but it is something that relates to you product and can help bring more customers your way.
4. Take Something Away
The fourth marketing strategy you can use for your product is to take something away from it. Using the donuts shop example business from earlier, what you can do is offer mini donuts. If a person wants a little sweet snack but maybe thinks an entire donut is too much, this can be a way to have one and cut down on the sugar and calories.
5. Add Something To Your Product
Yet another way you can use your product to try to drive customer action is to add something to it. Let’s say for example you own a computer shop. What you can do is offer a free one hour training on things such as Excel, PowerPoint, or something similar when someone buys a computer. Or you can offer one hour a week where anyone that buys a computer from you can bring that computer in for issues and you will try to help them with the issues for free if you are able to.
I hope these strategies provide you actionable steps you can take to try to get and keep more customers. Similarly I also hope they inspire you to think of more ideas and ways to market your business, product, or service.
